House rewiring

Specialist House Rewiring for Milton Keynes Homes

If your fuse box still has wire fuses, your lights flicker when the kettle goes on, or a survey has just flagged your electrics, you're probably wondering what a rewire will involve and what it will cost. House Rewiring Milton Keynes does one thing: we rewire homes. We handle full rewires, partial rewires and consumer unit upgrades for homeowners, buyers and landlords across Milton Keynes and the surrounding towns.

Every job starts with a free survey at your home. We look at your existing wiring, your consumer unit and how you actually use the house, then send you a fixed written quote. The price we quote is the price you pay unless you change the job.

About us

Local Electricians Who Only Do Rewires

Our founder, Mark, grew up in Bletchley and has spent his working life in Milton Keynes homes. He kept seeing the same thing: houses built in the city's first decades, still running on their original wiring, with owners who'd never had a straight answer about what a rewire involves. So we decided to specialise.

Because rewiring is all we do, we've got very good at it. We know how MK houses of every era are built, where the cable runs usually go, and how to get new circuits in without tearing a home apart. We plan every job around the people living there, keep you updated every day, and leave the house powered every night. More about us

Warning signs

Signs Your Milton Keynes Home Needs Rewiring

Milton Keynes was designated a new town in 1967, and many of its homes were built over the following twenty years. In thousands of houses across Bletchley, Bradwell, Great Linford and Netherfield, the original wiring is now around 40 to 55 years old. Older market towns such as Stony Stratford, Olney and Newport Pagnell add Victorian and Edwardian homes, where the wiring can be older still or patched together over generations.

Age on its own doesn't mean you need a rewire. Wiring in good condition can last a long time. But these are the warning signs we look for:

  • An old fuse box with rewireable fuses, or a wooden-backed board
  • No RCD protection, so there's nothing to cut the power fast if something goes wrong
  • Black rubber, fabric-covered or lead-sheathed cables
  • Round-pin sockets, or sockets mounted on skirting boards
  • Scorch marks, warm sockets, or a burning smell near switches
  • Lights that flicker or dim, or breakers that trip regularly
  • Too few sockets, with extension leads everywhere
  • An EICR or homebuyer survey that recorded C1 or C2 faults

If any of these sound familiar, the safest next step is a proper inspection. We'll tell you honestly whether you need a full rewire, a partial rewire or just a new consumer unit.

Costs

How Much Does It Cost to Rewire a House in Milton Keynes?

This is the question we're asked most. The honest answer is that it depends on the size of the house, how easy it is to get under floors and into the loft, and how many sockets and lights you want. Here are typical prices for Milton Keynes homes:

1-bed flat

£3,000 – £4,500

  • Typical duration: 3–5 days

2-bed house

£4,000 – £6,000

  • Typical duration: 5–7 days

4-bed detached

£7,000 – £10,000

  • Typical duration: 10–14 days

Why choose us

Why Homeowners Choose Us

Rewiring Specialists

We don't fit kitchens or chase emergency call-outs. Rewires are all we do, so the people in your home know exactly what they're doing.

Fixed Prices, No Surprises

You get a written, itemised quote after a free survey. If something genuinely unexpected turns up, we stop and talk to you before any extra cost is added.

Tidy, Lived-In Rewires

Most of our customers stay at home during a rewire. We lift and relay floorboards carefully, keep chasing to a minimum, dust-sheet everything and get your power back on every evening.

Certified & Notified

Every rewire is fully tested and handed over with an Electrical Installation Certificate, and the work is notified under Part P of the Building Regulations. That paperwork matters when you sell or remortgage.

How it works

How Your Rewire Works

  1. Free survey

We visit at a time that suits you, look at your existing installation and talk through what you need: extra sockets, outside power, EV-ready circuits and so on.

  2. Fixed quote

Within a couple of working days you'll get a clear written quote with the price, the timescale and exactly what's included.

  3. The rewire

First fix (new cables and back boxes) usually takes most of the time. Then comes second fix (sockets, switches, lights and the new consumer unit). We work room by room so the house stays usable.

  4. Test & certify

We test every circuit, issue your Electrical Installation Certificate, notify Building Control, and walk you through your new board.

FAQs

House Rewiring Questions

How long does a house rewire take?

A typical 3-bed house in Milton Keynes takes 7 to 10 working days if you're living in it, and a little less if the house is empty. A flat can be done in under a week.

Can I stay in my house while it's rewired?

Yes. Most of our customers do. We work room by room and restore the power at the end of each day, so you always have lights, a fridge and somewhere to sleep.

Will a rewire damage my walls?

There's always some disruption, but we keep it to a minimum by running cables under floors and through the loft wherever we can. Where walls do need chasing, we make good the plaster so it's ready for decorating.

How often should a house be rewired?

There's no fixed rule. Wiring in good condition can last decades. We recommend an inspection every 10 years for owner-occupied homes, and if the wiring is old or showing the warning signs, a survey will tell you whether a rewire is needed.

Do I need a new consumer unit with a rewire?

Almost always, yes. A new consumer unit gives every circuit modern RCD protection. It's included in our full rewire prices.
